CITY OF SEATTLE SELECTS TRUMBA TO POWER ONLINE EVENT CALENDARS
City of Seattle Leverages Trumba Connect to Provide Residents and Visitors Greater Access to Local Events
Seattle, WA, August 23, 2012 –Trumba Corporation, a developer of innovative online calendaring solutions, announced today that the City of Seattle selected Trumba Connect to power their online event calendars, providing citizens and visitors greater access to citywide events of interest. Trumba Connect helps organizations increase event awareness and attendance and better connects them with their audience through a comprehensive suite of tools that includes a hosted, interactive web calendar, email, and reporting services.
The City of Seattle needs powerful and flexible event publishing tools that can meet the diverse needs of many different departments. Trumba’s flexible administrative features and calendar sharing make it easy to designate events for display on one or more of the City’s 24 department calendars (Arts & Cultural Affairs, Police and Fire Departments, Animal Shelter and more). Some departments have a single calendar they share with the citywide calendar, and other larger departments (such as Parks & Recreation) use a master calendar with several division calendars rolling up to it. “Trumba is far more robust and sharable than our previous calendar, and provides a back-end interface that allows us to further our calendar capabilities as we need to,” says Steve Ripley of Seattle’s Citywide Web Team. “We like Trumba’s modularity – it is a powerful product with many features, allowing for a lot of granularity in the calendar set-up and publication. This comes in handy, such as in a recent project where we reconfigured the Seattle City Council calendar and retooled various fields and publishing settings to meet the specific needs of our Seattle City Council calendar clients.”
Trumba keeps citizens informed and engaged with the City’s web site and events. The Seattle Mayor’s Office uses Trumba’s event submission form for the City’s Public Outreach and Engagement calendar, so that all department public information officers can submit events that are City-sponsored and engage the public. Published on the Mayor’s Office website, this calendar is also used for the City’s home page and feeds into the citywide calendar. The City of Seattle keeps its calendars current and interesting by soliciting events from the public as well. “Our Citywide and Weekend calendars, which the public can submit to and we actively moderate for public submissions, has been extremely successful, a go-to calendar spot where people know they can promote their events and find local events,” says Ripley. “We’ve also offered a Seasonal Seattle calendar over the winter holidays, to which we add season-specific events, to help promote and add focus for local groups and businesses. The Trumba calendar has been an excellent tool that allows us to use calendaring to provide the public with important event information, as well as to empower the public to promote their own events.”
Trumba provides the City of Seattle and its site visitors with complete and customized event details. Using Trumba’s powerful Custom Objects feature, the City publishes a list of over 150 venues with photos and detailed descriptions, all linked to the City’s various calendars. The City of Seattle’s Emergency Management calendar is one of several calendars using Custom Objects. Users can hover over the location to view high-level information about the venue, and click on the location name to see full venue details, including description, hours of operation, map, all events occurring at the venue, and more.
Trumba’s customizable event registration tool increases event participation, helping the City of Seattle successfully collect and manage information for large events such as their annual Citywide Night Out. Says Ripley, “The ability to use registration for events has proven invaluable, particularly for our annual Seattle Night Out event, which uses a special registration form used by over 1,300 Night Out groups for this big event.”
Trumba’s Event Actions and social media features increase awareness and attendance at City of Seattle events. “It’s great to be able to provide so many calendar feed variations – a daily email, RSS, Atom or iCal subscriptions, as well as the ability to post to Facebook and Twitter, make the calendars and events awesomely sharable,” says Ripley. “Our monthly calendar views have grown continually ever since we started using Trumba – just this past month our collective calendars – around 30 or so for the public, and several used on our InWeb for City employees – have received over 120,000 calendar views, and many thousands of feed subscriptions.”
