In the highlands of Ethiopia, scribes and priests keep alive the last remaining tradition of Christian parchment manuscript production. Sean Winslow conducted dozens of interviews with remaining scribes, parchmenters, and other manuscript craftsmen, and will talk about the living tradition as well as what it can tell us about historic bookmaking in Ethiopia and the wider Christian and Islamic world.

Sean M. Winslow is a historian and codicologist, focused on recovering the lost practices of traditional manuscript production. He works as a postdoctoral researcher in Digital Humanities at the Institut Zentrum for Informationsmodellierung — Austrian Centre for the Digital Humanities of the University of Graz, in Austria. His current research includes cataloguing Ethiopian binding decoration, the digital modelling of charters, and work on his forthcoming monograph on the Ethiopian manuscript tradition.
