Description | "Locating Black Queer Food Geographies” Presenter: Keila Taylor, Ph.D. Candidate Respondent: Christina Yuen Zi Chung, Ph.D. Candidate In this colloquium, Keila Taylor asks, how do foodways shift when Black queer lives are at the center? To answer this they discuss theories and methodologies from Black Feminist Geographies, Black Queer Studies, and Critical Food Studies that have assisted them in grappling with defining a Black queer food relational framework. They consider the influence of racial and sexual spatial politics on the real and imaginative construction of local food geographies. With the hope of potentially offering an alternative approach to understanding food inequalities, this presentation positions “Black queer food” as its own landscape and geography more reflective of the resistance, resilience, and creativity present among QTBIPOC communities compared to traditional geographic arrangements.
